Culture - Trees, Sport and Recreation

The clash of the Ash firmly places trees at the heart of our national game Hurling. The demand for ash for Hurleys is so strong that imports are needed and woodland ownere are urged to plant more. Other sports with wooden gear are cricket, hockey tennis and snooker. Orienteering and paintball specifically require a forest environment. More and more trees in our gardens, parks, woodlands and forests are providing the environment to make urban life more tolerable. City trees along our streets and roads provide an aesthetic component, lessen stress and can even reduce pollution. Tidy town are judged in part at least by the amount of green spaces they include. Dublin, through wise purchase of old estates by the City and State authorities has some of the best and biggest parks in Europe of which thre Phoenix park is the most famous.
